Wattle Creek - Emerald

Updated: Oct 31

PLEASE NOTE: Unless you have an annual local's parking pass from Cardinia Shire Council there is a fee to park at Emerald Lake Park - $2 for 2 hours or $6 per day. Payment is by Credit or Visa/MasterCard Debit card only (not cash or debit only card).

This walk begins at the Emerald Lake Park main car park, it's part of the 14.5km Eastern Dandenong Ranges Trail which goes from Clematis to Gembrook via Wright Forest & Cockatoo.

Walk along the lake path running alongside the main entrance road with the lake to your right, cross over the side road between Emerald Lake & Lake Treganowan & look for the path and the Eastern Dandenong Ranges Trail sign. There are beautiful gum trees and the sound of birds & the creek as you walk along the path until you cross the bridge which brings you out onto Wright Rd. Turn right and follow the road until you reach Wright Forest, the Puffing Billy track & Wright station. There are trails into the forest if you want to extend your walk, or return to the car park the same way you came.

The tracks are mostly gently sloping, nice and wide, gravel or paved.

Alternatively (not walking group!) you can also park at the Wright Forest end where there are a few parking spots available & walk the opposite way. Or, if you want a longer walk, you can park at Nobelius Heritage Park (3 Chrichton Rd, Emerald (Google Maps) then walk down to the lake via a number of tracks.

Toilets: There is a toilet block near the lake, close to the starting point.
