The Hallam Valley Trail is a 10km circuit opened in May 2014 that meanders through the Hallam Creek Valley among native wetlands and picturesque surrounds. Sweeney Reserve, where we will start the walk, boasts both sport and leisure facilities including football, cricket, baseball/softball, soccer and tennis facilities along with barbecue facilities and a playground.
The trail has two main parking areas, one at each end of the trail) located at KM Reedy Reserve (11 Pound Road, Hampton Park) and Sweeney Reserve (70I Melzak Way, Berwick).
This walk starts at the football ovals, along the trail to some pretty wetlands (Hallam Main Drain Reserve) & then back the same way.
The tracks are mostly flat, with small gravel or concrete & wooden bridges. Some sections of the path can become flooded following rainfall and there are a few main road crossings so care should be taken with young children and pedestrian crossings used where possible.
Starting Point: The carpark near the playground and netball courts, between the two football ovals. It's easy to get lost getting here, so if it's your first time I recommend leaving a bit of extra time & using the Google Maps link for navigation.
Distance: 4.8km
Toilets: None on the walk. There are clean ones at Eden Rise Shopping Centre next to Spec Savers.
Dogs: Allowed (On Leash Only)
Download: Walking trails information & map
For your GPS: 28 Dempster Way, Berwick. This will get you to the roundabout and the entrance to the reserve. Once through the entrance, follow the road all the way around to the playground & the car park between the 2 football ovals.
